For a trip to Marrakesh and the Sahara Desert in May, you’ll want to pack a mix of clothing to accommodate warm days and cooler evenings. Here’s a suggested packing list:
Lightweight, Breathable Clothing: Pack light cotton or linen clothing that covers your arms and legs to protect you from the sun and adhere to local customs, especially when visiting mosques or religious sites.
Layering Options: Include a few items for layering, such as long-sleeve shirts, a lightweight sweater or fleece, and a jacket for cooler evenings and nights, particularly in the desert.
Comfortable Footwear: Bring comfortable walking shoes for exploring cities like Marrakesh. For the Sahara Desert, closed-toe shoes or sturdy sandals suitable for sand and possibly rocky terrain are essential.
Sun Protection: Don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a high SPF sunscreen to protect against the sun’s rays, which can be especially intense in the desert.
Scarf or Shawl: A scarf or shawl is versatile for both sun protection during the day and warmth at night. It can also be used for modesty in more conservative areas.
Backpack or Day Bag: A small backpack or day bag will be useful for carrying water, snacks, camera, and other essentials during day trips or excursions.
Swimwear: If your accommodation has a pool or if you plan to visit a hammam (traditional bathhouse), bring swimwear.
